When companies call

The finance function is under pressure. The next move needs to be right.

Sometimes the team knows exactly where the pain is, but nobody has had the time to step back and fix it. The close keeps stretching. The same spreadsheets get rebuilt. The audit request list grows while everyone still has a business to run. Leadership has reports, but not always the answer it needs.

Calibrate helps connect the pieces, separate necessary rigor from expensive habit, and get the work pointed at the decisions that matter.

“That’s how we’ve always done it” is sometimes the most expensive sentence in accounting.

HOW CALIBRATE WORKS

Useful. Human. Clear.

Useful. Human. Clear.

Useful. Human. Clear.

Good finance work should make the business easier to understand, not harder. Calibrate brings technical rigor, direct communication, and enough curiosity to ask whether the work still makes sense.

Chad Bennett, CPA

Founder

More than two decades across accounting, finance and advisory.

His background spans Grant Thornton, corporate financial reporting and SEC compliance, technical accounting, fractional CFO/controller work, audit readiness, internal controls and finance-system transitions.

Calibrate is deliberately independent and hands-on. Clients work directly with Chad, with senior-level support built around what the business actually needs—not layers, handoffs, or a predefined service model.

WHAT THE WORK LOOKS LIKE

What working with Calibrate can look like.

Understand the numbers

Know what changed, why it changed, and what deserves attention.

Improve the machinery

Fix closes, reconciliations, reporting, handoffs, and processes that create unnecessary work.

Look ahead

Turn accounting information into forecasts, decisions, and a clearer view of what comes next.

The work varies by company. The objective doesn’t: make the finance function more useful, understandable, and dependable.

When reporting needs to be easier to trust

THE SITUATION

A regulated quarterly reporting process relied heavily on printed trial balances, manual rekeying, and sequential handoffs. Late accounting adjustments could force substantial portions of the reporting process to be repeated.

WHAT CHANGED

The process was rebuilt around a central trial balance feeding integrated financial statements and supporting schedules. Accounting adjustments, cross-schedule validation checks, and explanations for unusual items were built directly into the reporting structure.

RESULT

The reporting became substantially easier to refresh, trace, review, and explain. Late adjustments no longer required rebuilding large portions of the reporting package, and key control checks became part of the process itself.

When more precision isn’t more useful

THE SITUATION
A large organization was spending significant time every month on an accrual process built around an exceptionally low materiality threshold. Important process knowledge also lived partly in handwritten notes and with one long-tenured employee.

WHAT CHANGED
The threshold was revisited with finance leadership, process knowledge was moved into the supporting workbook, and the underlying Excel work was simplified and documented.

RESULT

The process became more practical, maintainable, and less dependent on knowledge living with one person — without sacrificing useful financial accuracy.

Turning reports into understanding

THE SITUATION
Leadership received recurring financial reports but rarely engaged with them. Management had limited internal finance support and initially found budgeting and financial models intimidating.

WHAT CHANGED
Financial reporting was paired with plain-language explanations tied directly to the numbers, while budgeting discussions connected operating assumptions such as staffing, pricing, and volume to their financial impact.

RESULT

Management moved from primarily receiving financial information to participating in it — working with assumptions, connecting operating changes to financial outcomes, and asking better questions.

When the business needs someone to step into the seat

THE SITUATION
A growing company needed more than project-based technical advice. The finance function required hands-on support across daily accounting, payroll, complex accruals, month-end close, internal reporting, and external financial reporting.

WHAT CHANGED
Experienced accounting leadership became embedded directly in the function, taking responsibility for substantial portions of the day-to-day accounting and reporting while improving inherited workpapers, documentation, and traceability.

RESULT

The company gained experienced finance support inside the work itself rather than an outside advisor simply handing management a list of recommendations.

Let’s make the next move the right one.
